Before moving to this 1927 building that the Armada repaired and restored, "Sabahattin the Fisherman" operated his restaurant in a small shop inherited from his father a few streets away. Not widely known at the time, but irreplaceable to its devotees, Sabahattin the Fisherman has since become a fixture of the Istanbul dining scene, and in the year 2000 was on the cover of the New York Times twice!

The "Giritli Restaurant" hosts its guests in an old restored Sultanahmet house, serving healthy fresh fish and delicious appetizers. Best of all, Chef Ayşe Şensılay, daughter of a Cretan family who founded the restaurant, personally cooks and supervises in the kitchen. She also has very good relationships with her guests as she knows many of them personally. If you once taste Ayse's kitchen, you may like repeating that!

Another interesting place at the Ahirkapı seaside that was ingrained in old Istanbul way of life; "Karışmasen Restaurant" regained its original identity after a recent restoration. The story of the restaurant which was originally named as "Şenyuva Waterside Night-club" dates back to 1938. The founders are the members of Nacar family who used to live in (the then "Ahirkapı") Cankurtaran Square and moved to Ahirkapı seashore later on.
