5th Day, "From the Golden
Horn to Western Istanbul"
Take a taxi to the Golden Horn and Eyüp, one of the oldest Ottoman districts
of the city. Here you can visit the Eyüp Mosque and then walk up to Pierre
Loti's Café to enjoy a Turkish coffee or tea overlooking the Golden Horn.
Then take a taxi to the Chora (Kariye) Church to see the outstanding frescoes
and the finest examples of Byzantine mosaics…
Lunch
After visiting the Chora you can have lunch at the nearby Asitane Restaurant,
which serves classical Ottoman cuisine…
Address: Asitane Restaurant - Kariye Hotel, Kariye Cami St. No:18 Edirnekapi

Afternoon
After
lunch, take a taxi to the Dolmabahçe Palace, one of the very few examples
of "oriental-baroque" architecture, built by the 19th century
Ottoman sultans to compete with the palaces of the Russian czars, and
to replace the Topkapı Palace as their primary Istanbul residence. On
your tour through the Palace you will see the Reception Hall, the Harem,
the Sultan's Mother's Chamber, the Blue Salon, the Sultan's bedrooms,
the Concubines’ Section, the Pink Salon, gardens and aviaries, as well
as the rooms used by Atatürk. If you have to wait for your tour (or perhaps
afterwards), relax with a glass of tea or a cup of Turkish coffee at the
tea-garden at the edge of the Bosphorus just next to the entrance to the
Palace.
Tired by now? If so, return to the Armada for a rest...
Evening
You may experience another "Istanbul classic" for dinner if
you like lamb. For the best grilled lamb in Europe, the address is BEYTI...
